Adoption Diaries: New Year , New Cuties
Elyse's Adoption Diary:
Happy New Year! What better way to kick off a new year than to visit little furry ones? I made a resolution to go see them even more often and play with them longer...maybe you can, too!
To get this party started...puppies!
This is Holly and Patty. Just 2 months on this planet and they're already fighting for the camera's attention!
Awww, Rudy! He really is as cute in person as he is in this photo! I was taken aback by how calm and sedate this 7-year-old is. He likes to be pet and it says on his card that he gets really attached to people and wants a home where he won't be too lonely. Bestill my heart! He still needs to finish up his medical work (he had bladder stones removed) before he can be adopted.
I was stricken by Amber's pretty face. She is 2 years old, and yelled at me to open her cage. But when I obliged, she stood there, frozen. It took her a few minutes to warm up to me. She was more shy and nervous than she was mean. She was actually pretty sweet. Makes you wonder what they've been through before coming here...
Uh, yeah, I don't know their names. I just snapped the picture cuz they were so cute and forgot about everything else. Sorry, guys, I'll make it up to you and get you your P.R. next week!
Introducing...Feline Dancing Queen! My boss, ASPCA Web Editor Pune Dracker, dances when she's not editing. She swears this kitty is doing an arabesque! If only we were all that flexible...

My name is Michelle and my cat Ernie died on Thursday Janauary 3, 2008 after being misdiagnosed at Central Veterinary Associates in Valley Stream. she was diagnosed with kidney disease two months ago. dr. Deface from Central Veterinary Asociates told me that she needed to have a tooth taken out. She was put on Purina Veterinary Diet, NF and was thriving. She started bleeding from her mouth shortly before Christmas. I asked the veterinarian how much the surgery would cost to have her tooth extracted. He told me $1,246 without hospitalization, pain medication or the flush to flush out the anesthia from her kidney's. At that time I spent hours and days on the internet looking for an animal organization that would cover the cost of her surgery since I am not working and only receive unemployment. On Thursday December 25, 2007, I got a phone call from Siobhan at the Maoy's Alliance for Cats in New York City. Siobhan told me the Mayor's Alliance for Cats would cover the cost of Ernie's surgery. On Friday December 26, 2007, I took her back to Central Veterinary Associate's in Valley Stream New York because she was bleeding more and more from her mouth. Dr. Deface told me that she weighed 4.5 pounds
and had severe dental disease and placed her on Clavimox. She didn't eat her dinner on Friday night. She ate breakfast on Saturday morning, but didn't eat Saturday night. she ate breakfast on Sunday moring and did not eat after that. I called Central Veterinary Asociates on Sunday and Monday and no one returned my phone call. I shceduled an appointment at the Murray Hill Pet Hospital in Manhattan New York for Thursday Janaury 3, 2008 at 11 AM. On Wednesday Janaury 2, 2008, I took her back to Central Veterinary Associates becuse she was falling down. I had hope that they would give her some type of hydration. Dr. Vine then told me that she needed to be hospitalized because she was in renal failure and weighed only 3.9 pounds and her temperature was 96.6. I called the Murray Hill Pet Hospital and asked them if I could bring her in. They told me to bring her in right away. I jumped on the Long Isldand Railroad and had her admitted to Murray Hill Pet Hospital. Dr. Lauridia called me Thursday morning Janauary 3,2008 and told me they were doing everything they could for Ernie. she was on IV therapy for hydration, stomach protectant and heat therapy. dr. Lauridia told me that he prognosis was very poor and that the reason why she could not eat was because she had ulcers in her mouth. He said he kidney values were through the roof. He said they would do everything they could for her on Thursday Janaury 3, 2008and Friday Janaury 4,2008 and then make another assessment on Friday January 4, 2008. I started singing her the song that I would sing to her everyday. Fifteen minutes later I received a telephone call from Dr. Lauridia. He said; "I have bad news, Ernie passed away fifteen minutes ago. I asked him if she suffered alot and he told me "no." He said; "She was pretty out of it. her phosphorous and creatine levels were very high and basically her body was poisoned with blood and her heart stopped. She looked very peaceful." I thanked Dr. Lauridia for trying to save Ernie. I called Siobhan at the Mayor's Alliance for Cats and told her that Ernie died and she gave me her condolesces. she also told me that Central Veterinary Associates in Valley Stream New York should have been able to catch the ulcers and severe dental disease at that time. She also told me that the Mayor's Alliance for Cat's would cover the cost of veterinary care for my other four cats. i thanked her very much. I am writing this (Ernie's Quest) to let people know about Central Veterinary Associates in Valley Stream New York. Many people I have talked to over the course of he past few weeks and on Thursday Janaury 3, 2008 said
Central Veterinary Associates often admit pets to the hospital, either misdiagnosing them or ordering unnecessay tests that often run into the thousands. According to the Better Business Bureau of Valley Stream Long Island New York, Central Veterinary Associates had 24 complaints placed against them last year and took over a year to respond back. Please if you know anyone that is considering taking their pets to Central veterinary Assocites in Valley Stream New York, tell them to consider another vet. Please pass it on and tell them not to take their pets there. Thank you.
I'm so sorry to hear Ernie's story. I know how hurt you must be about losing a loved one. I lost "the love of my life doggy" over a year ago and I tell you I was so broken hearted. The only thing that made me feel better was time and rescuing another dog,Tallulah. You did what you thought was best for Ernie and he loves you always for it. I believe we'll all be reunited someday.
Oh how cuite i wish i can adopt a lot of animals but no cause iam only 12 but i really luv animals & i always cry on that comercial u guys play for ASPCA it is soooo sad i wish i can help all the animals that been abused
I would love a new pet but I just need to know where the aspca is.But I think that it is just great the way you guys help those inocent animals. So I say thank you, cause with out you guys another animal would die in the hands of a neglective owner!!!!!!!!
To mikicat9432, I am sorry to hear of your loss, but from the sound of your letter, you seem to be one of those people who have more pets then they should have and don't expect to have to pay any bills for them. There is a responsibilty to pet ownership just like to having children and this includes a financial repsonsibilty. Your letter appears to be written by a child with so many obvious errors that it is most likely just libel against a practice that expected to be paid for their services.
The worst thing for pets is to have a neglectful owner and that is exactly what I would call you.
I have researched the practices that you have mentioned and I found much philanthropic work that Central Vet Associates has done. I doubt that you have ever done anything along those lines since it seems you don't even want to take care of your own pets properly.
You must be thrilled now since you scammed the Mayor's Alliance into covering the fees for your other cats. Well done, at least they might finally get the care they need.
Do not bring your pet to this place. Their primary concern is your wallet. I have talked to many people who have experienced nothing but frustration when talking to these people. Dr. Swine is incompetent.
Never ever consider this hole for your pet. The so called doctors are phony, incompetent, and more importantly -deadly. Fox and Swine are interested in one thing and one thing only---your money
