From the ASPCA Adoption Center Files: Up Close and Personal with Fabian

*June is Adopt-A-Shelter Cat Month. Some of our cats have been here for longer than we'd like (or they deserve). We're going to post a new kitty interview every Friday this month, so stay tuned! Here's Fabian to kick things off...

Gender: Male
ASPCA: Good morning, Fabian.

Fabian slowly opens one eye, then the second. He blinks and takes a moment to decide whether he’s going to talk to me or go back to sleep. He yawns.

FABIAN: Is it time for our interview already? I was just having the most excellent dream. It’s a recurring dream. I’m chasing this mouse, but he always gets away. Ah, this time I almost had him…darn.

ASPCA: Sorry about that, Fabe. But we wanna get you adopted, so let’s do this. What are you looking for in a family?

FABIAN: Ummmm. I’m not too picky. I’m a pretty chill guy. All I want is someone who will let me hang out. I like to get close. I’m not saying I’ll be all over you. I just want to be near you. If there’s a spot reserved for me next to you on a chair or in bed, that’ll be swell. But don’t think you should pick me up or anything...I’m not into that.

ASPCA: Do you like other cats?

FABIAN: Eh, I’d rather have a human all to myself. Preferably someone who’s had a cat before. I don’t want to be stuck with someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing!

ASPCA: Has anyone ever commented on your big head?

FABIAN: Gee, I hear that every day! I’m proud of my big head. I think I’m handsome, and it just goes to show I have lots of room for brains!

ASPCA: We think you’re stunning! Orange head, big eyes—and clever, too. Do you have time for a head rub before we let you get back to sleep?

FABIAN: Ooh, ooh, yeah! I always have time for a head rub.
