This Sunday, Get The Real Truth About The Michael Vick Case
“I want to apologize.”“I take full responsibility for my actions.”
“Those things just didn’t have to happen.”
—Michael Vick, former football star sentenced to 23 months in federal prison on charges in connection with a dog fighting operation on his property in Virginia
The sentence may have been handed down, but the concern and questions still remain. What happened to the dogs seized in the case? How did Vick get involved in this underworld?
Many of these questions will be answered this Sunday night during “Animal Witness: The Michael Vick Case," the premiere episode of Animal Planet’s new series on animal forensics. The one-hour show offers an in-depth look at Vick and exposes the hidden world of dog fighting—and for the first time on national television, lead investigator Bill Brinkman talks about the inner workings of the case.
The episode will also feature interviews with Dr. Melinda Merck, ASPCA Forensic Veterinarian, and Officer Annemarie Lucas, Supervisory Special Investigator, ASPCA Humane Law Enforcement. As reported in ASPCA News Alert, the ASPCA worked closely with federal authorities at every step of the case, first assisting in forensic examinations and later leading behavior evaluations of the seized dogs.
“Animal Witness: The Michael Vick Case" airs at 10:00 P.M. EST this Sunday, August 24; please note, the episode does feature footage from underground dog fighting videos—viewer discretion is advised.

The Michael Vick case just utterly makes me sick that this joker can come on tv and go on the radio and say how remorseful he is BUT the truth is he probably only feels remorseful because he got caught! His football career should be over. He's as bad as someone who puts guns on the streets for irresponsible people can get a hold of them without state issued permits and background checks
Agreed, the appearance of remorse is only because the cruelty is public. Sure wish accountability was available in all states for all acts of animal cruelty & suffering. Sadly, my state of New Hampshire is far behind in investigation, elimination & prosecution, even when the SPCA agent is notified.
I agree - he's only upset because he got busted. I'm tryingt o keep it clean here - but with my thoughts about this abomination of a person, it's hard. Celeb or not - too bad - what he did was against the law and simply disgusting and cruel. The man should fry.
I will be watching for sure.
I viewed this program, and as musch as it disturbed me to see the videos, i felt i just had to see it, so that i could judge for myself..and my heart just literlly breaks..i agree he is sorry...but only because he got caught..he lost his career, and he had to file bankruptcy..and he still had to serve his time..but...you know i feel that he did not get his just reward..i got "sick" just looking at him..his conduct is unexcusable. I don't think that the time he will do, is going to make a difference in his life, at this point..he is an evil man..and i feel horrid for the pain he caused helpless animals..i am an avid animal lover..(with animals of my own) thank you for letting me post this...god bless
I just watched the Michael Vick story and it made me sick to my stomach. I don't care what type of childhood this creep had nor what he saw growing up. His remorse and I'm sorry speech was all a front. He didn't give it from his heart because he has no heart! Not ONCE did he apologize or say he was sorry to the poor pit bulls he killed and who know what other animals he made suffer. His punishment should be to put him in a fight ring and see how he feels when his throat is torn apart, legs broken and skin ripped off. And if that is not enough then take him out back and shoot him, electricute him and then drown him. I hope he never returns to Atlanta and I hope the inmates at Leavenworth Penitentiary do the same to him as he did to those poor dogs. Now he has filed bankruptsy therefore not having to pay any further monies and went as far as to join the drup rehap program. Why? Because if he successfully goes through the program he sentence "could be" lessened up to one year. We need to speak up for these animals and petition against any reduction with his sentence. It is sad to see our hard earned money and tax dollars are used to house such scum. May Michael Vick pay for his cruelty and burn in hell. On his grave headstone and as a headline for any material pertaining to him instead of saying "#1 Quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons it should say Dog Killer! He is a sick sick person and so are the other 3 partners.
In my opinion, the sentence was not nearly long enough!

I had a hard time sitting through the program. I believe karma, more than any justice system, will take care of Michael Vick.
One thing positive I walked away with after watching the program is my new found admiration for Pit Bulls. It never occured to me they became the victims of dog fights because of their eagerness to please their owners. God bless them!
The episode stated that the sheriff deputy Bill Brinkman lost his job as a result of going over his boss' head and the state attorney general's head who refused to pursue the case quickly. Is there any way to donate funds to Bill Brinkman to thank him for going above and beyond in the name of humanity to risk his job?
I don't believe his apology. I also think he's just sorry he got caught. I noticed he didn't apologize to any of the dogs he kept in those conditions, or how he didn't say he felt bad for the dogs he helped kill. No remorse for that huh.
Vick and all the others that are or were involved in these horrific acts of violence towards innocent animals will have their day. No punishment they get here on earth will be equal to what is waiting for him. God is the creator of all things, humans and animals and Vick and all others will get what they deserve for what they have done to God's animals. They will get more than we can ever give them as punishment. These mens' lives and future lives of their children and their childrens' children and so on, will be filled with bad karma. They can never ever escape it and will be haunted forever.
He is only sorry he got busted. His story made me almost puke!!!! He should be in jail much longer that 23 months. I don't believe him for 1 second!!!!
There are really several issues that one could discuss in the Michael Vick case, only one of which is animal cruelty.
One could easily talk about the idol whorship of athletic "Heroes" who are often so highly rewarded for playing a game that certain members of our society feel that they are above the law.
To cast a more positive light on a horrifically negative event, one could discuss the publicity that this case has drawn and how it will undoubtedly provide a opportunity for Virginia and other states to justify increasing the penalties for animal cruelty.
But, I believe the real positive outcome of this case may be the actual focus of this film, which was to finally disprove the ignorant view that pit bulls are mean tempered by nature and are to be feared.
All but 2 of the dogs rescued from the Vick compound were rehabilitated, adopted, and one is even serving as a therapy animal. Of the two distroyed, only one was euthanized for being over aggressive, the other was put down due to continued suffering from his sustained injuries. If Michael Vick's most vicious killing machines can be un-trained to become loyal and sweet family pets and therapy animals, I think we can finally put the nature vs. nurture arguement to bed, at least as much as it applies to breed temperament . Let us celebrate this wonderful aspect of the story and spread the word to help a much maligned breed.
Best wishes,
Paul
ALWAYS KNOW THERE IS A HIGHER POWER THIS MAN HAS NO OPTION OF ANSWERING TO WHEN HIS TURN COMES. I HAVE LOVED ANIMALS ALL MY LIFE MORE THAN PEPOLE AND I TRY TO ASK THERE CREATOR TO ALWAYS KEEP THEM SAFE OR JUST TAKE THEM BACK FROM THOSE WHO NEVER DESERVED THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE IT IS SAD TO KNOW THESE PEPOLE HAVE ANY TYPE OF LIFE AT ALL.
I agree with previous posters that there has been a silver lining to Vick's disgusting actions - it moved the spotlight about dogfighting out of the shadows and into the media -
I also agree that the sentence was not long enough!
Did Michael Vick ever show remorse for the horrible cruelty to those dogs?
I must agree with the general population here and say that he is only sorry he got caught. He's sorry for HIMSELF. That's it. And he's sorry that he lost all his money. That's REALLY it.
Unfortunately, I missed the pilot show but have read enough about it to know that it probably would have made my stomach turn, too.
I am so glad that the majority of these dogs are making happy, healthy recoveries and now receiving the love and care that they so deserve.

I also viewed the program, I sat there in tears, wondering how anyone could be so cruel. I feel for those innocent dogs. I believe that all that take part in these types of cruel events should have the same done to them as their punishment so that they can experience how it feels. Michael Vick was found guilty, Yes but did the punishment fit the crime...? Hardly! When he gets out he will probably go back to doing the same. He's a sorry son of #@$#$!!!!! It really doesn't matter what type of childhood he had, as God says you are not responsible for being knocked down but are responsible for picking yourself back up. I am a true animal lover as you have read and it outrages me that this could even go on. Michael Vick's "I'm sorry speech" didn't fool me, if he hadn't got caught he would still be at it. I just hope and pray he's learned his lesson and that this guy will not be a repeat offender.
How could someone take away a dog's defense by wearing down its teeth. how could someone get a dog knowing its days were limited. How could someone put a dog in a ring knowing it had a 50 50 chance of living. How could someone watch a dog suffer with blood all around gasping for air knowing that it is their own fault it is lying there. That dog is suffering and it is thinking "it's over for me I deserve this because i did not please my owner i did not win" NO living animal should have 2 die like that. Pitbulls will do anything 2 please their owner. Please help me stop dog fighting it is a cruel act that no animal should have 2 go through
I did not get to see this show, but I just saw DogTown: it was about the Michael Vick dogs. Dogtown took 24 pitbulls from his property and they are trying to rehabilitate the pits so they can get adopted. The show focused on 4 pits who were going to be the trainers biggest challenge to rehabilitate. That Vick guy is horrible he should die and go to the 9th circle of hell! One pitbull had all her teeth purposely pulled out so she wont hurt male pits when she was forced to breed. Vick even had a "rape rack" which was a device to hold down female dogs to ensure breeding would take place. If any dogs would lose a fight he would kill them by strangling them or electricuting them. He also had bait dogs who were used solely for the purpose of practice fighting with champion dogs. I can go on and on..on what this bastard did to poor defenseless animals. Luckily the pits were rehabiliating very well and some might be able to go up for adoption soon! The conviction Vick got was just a slap in the hand... He should have all his teeth pulled out and placed in the rape rack and raped numerous amounts of times so he can see what it feels like! Oh and then leave him to die!
Bastard!!! I do not think he is remorseful at all... a person who abuses animals to this extreme has no conscious what so ever!
i believe that michael vick is not sorry, that his attorney told him he had to look sympathetic that's what laywers do. it is all a act. keep in mind that he killed more than one dog with his own hands never felt sorry then. So why would he now. His childhood consisted of a young little hood gangsta. what he did with his friends is fight dogs that is what you do in the hood for fun. So even though he was this famous NFL player and had all that money. he doesn't know what to do with all his millions so what he does is do what he used to know as a way of life it is a adrenaline rush for them to throw there dog in a ring and yell and bet money they think of it as a fun time as we animal lovers find hanging out with a friend fun. You grow up in the hood and it becomes apart of you....YOU CANT TAKE A HOOD NI$$A OUTTA THE HOOD
i hated when they make horses so sick and they do not feed them that makes me sick and i =what to yell at htem
