Happy Columbus Day From The ASPCA!
Our pets discover new and exciting things every day, and where’s their holiday? We think our furry babies merit celebration, too.
The ASPCA’s editing team shared their pets’ discoveries:
- Kymberlie: My pit bull, Bruno, discovered the joys of easier living—the couch! Since discovering the cozy comforts of the sofa, I have discovered the joys of the Febreeze Pet Odor Eliminator!
- Michele: Our German Shepherd, Valentino, discovered an entire salami on the Sunday morning breakfast table.
- Pune: Bing has discovered that the kibble is crunchier on the other side. My nosey Siamese loves running out in the hallway on our floor and meowing at the neighbors' doors—particularly those behind which girl cats live. (P.S. Yes, he's neutered.)
- Elyse: Bruce discovered kitty guilt—if he whines in the morning, I won't get out of bed, but he knows if he looks cute and pathetic, I'll give him breakfast.
- Marie-Adele: Hector discovered that he needs to rethink his theories. He thought that when his dad was out of town, he could do whatever he wanted and his mama would let him get away with it. His experiment backfired big-time when he ripped three keys off my laptop and then meowed unsuccessfully for treats in the kitchen.
- Carrie: Blanket discovered that babies are often in possession of tasty snacks that are easy to steal. And even if the baby isn't holding a snack, they almost always have delicious flavors of past snacks clinging to their sticky hands and faces.

Blanket discovered the art of duping humans: “It’s like stealing a croissant from a baby.”

My 7 and a half year old golden retriever has discovered that if she comes up on the bed for a snuggle in the morning she is sure to get a nice long scratch behind the ears. She has also discovered that learning new tricks involves tons of treats so she is happy to oblige.
