Adoption Diaries: Social Hour at the A

Elyse’s Adoption Diary:

At the ASPCA Adoption Center, we have Habitats and we have Cat Rooms. The Habitats are for the social meowsters who make friends easily. The cats in the Cat Rooms all live together but in individual cages. When I visited one particular Cat Room, it was just before mealtime. They were having their own kitty happy hour (minus the booze) as they meowed across the room to one another. I let them take turns out of the cage, (one at a time, as our policy wisely dictates) and several of them chose to wander around and socialize with friends. Of course, some cats were more enthusiastic about this than others.

“Yo, did you see the new cat they just brought in? Talk about feline fine. Meoooow.”

“Hey guys, who’s up for poker tonight?”

“Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your fur!”

Speaking of roomies—some of our pooches share their kennels with a bud. I had to laugh when Bentley and JJ were more interested in their visitors than in playing together. Understandable—they do live together, after all. And as anyone who’s ever had a roommate knows—ya gotta respect each other’s space!

The odd couple: Bentley and JJ

I won’t leave you without reporting on the wittle kittens. There was yet another new litter to greet me! My two orange tabbies were a couple of months old when I adopted them—still tiny and adorable kittens, of course—so I loved meeting this little one depicted below, two weeks old. I got to see what my cats looked like as babes! There’s nothing like a kitten who can fit in the palm of your hand.

My, they grow fast. Look at the kittens you saw getting syringe-fed a few weeks ago. Sniff—they’ll be off to college soon! Er, I mean off to loving homes of adopters.
