He Ran, But He Couldn’t Hide

Here’s a good lesson for anyone who thinks a “hit and run” is not a crime when the victim is an animal. Our Humane Law Enforcement department arrested a man in Staten Island for striking a dog with his car, then fleeing the scene. The five-month-old dog had been on a walk with his owner.

Sad to say, the puppy died soon after the accident at a nearby animal hospital. To read more about the case, visit our pressroom.

That is so sad!!! Today on my way home from the dog park. We saw 2 dogs on the side of the road they had obviously been hit by a car. We stopped to check on them and they were dead. Had been for a day or so. I couldn't believe that someone would just run over 2 dogs and not even bother to take them to vet!!!!! Neither dog had on a collar. We called the sheriff's office and the dogs had been reported missing the day before.
Anyone that hits a dog with a vehicle should get some punishment...in fact for any kind of animal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please people put collars on your pets!! I can't imagine finding 2 of my dogs dead on the side of the road!!

Serves him right. People need to understand that animals have rights too.

I would just die if I hit an animal, no matter what kind. In fact, I'd rather crash into a tree, than run over a squirrel! My husband thinks I'm nuts (ha, ha...get it?), but I don't care. And anyone who says that a pigeon will move when a car is coming? No way...I stop for them, or drive around them.
