ASPCA Education Workshops
Workshops

The Humane Education Department is currently re-evaluating our traditional classroom programs and teacher workshops, and will not be offering these programs at this time.

We have a wide variety of wonderful standards-based lessons and activities created just for your classroom use. Animalessons newsletters are available to download and print for free as well. If you have any questions about our materials, and the best ways to implement humane education into your teaching day, please feel free to call the Humane Education department at 212-876-7700, extension 4400 or email us at education@aspca.org

Animal Assisted Therapy

The ASPCA also offers training classes which help prepare people and their dogs for participation in therapy dog work, in conjunction with the Delta Society. View the list of upcoming classes.

Paws'n Books

Paws'n Books, a program in development by the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), encourages elementary school children to develop and practice their reading skills by reading aloud to a registered therapy animal and his or her handler. The books read by the children, which are selections from the ASPCA Henry Bergh Children’s Book Award winners, teach humane lessons.

Therapy animals are non-judgmental, making the reading environment secure and fun for the appropriate children. Such an environment helps children improve their confidence as well as their reading skills. The Paws'n Books program is modeled after the R.E.A.D program developed by Intermountain Therapy Animals in Utah.
