KIDS WHO ROCK!
February 2007

Who: The students of TAPCO’s Technology Program and their video advisor, Steven Mudrick.

Where: Theater Arts Production Company School in MS 391, Bronx, New York City

Why: The students of the Tech Squad at MS 391 gave a Christmas present to the homeless animals of New York City. They donated $427 to the ASPCA!

How: Just before Christmas 2006, the Tech Squad organized a stuffed animal sale in their school. They kept their prices low (no animal cost more than $4) to make sure that everyone could afford to buy something. The Tech Squad did something else that was really special, too. Using the skills they had learned in school, they created a video inviting everyone to the sale and explaining what the ASPCA is all about. They showed it at a school assembly just before Christmas week. The video was a big hit, because the sale was a success—over 350 stuffed animals were sold! The Tech Squad could have kept the money for their school, but they decided that they wanted to give it to a charity instead. They decided on the ASPCA because they can take a field trip to the ASPCA’s 92nd Street shelter to see the animals.

Personal Quote: “We chose to give to the ASPCA because we love animals. They need homes and they need to be cared for, just like people,” say Tech Squad students Amin Razzaque, Marlon Gonzales and Alrinan Gilmore.
