A lifelong animal fanatic, she leaves behind a husband, two children, two grandchildren, a son-in-law and a personal petting zoo consisting of eight cats, two dogs and two ferrets.
A woman with a strong will and a great heart. A friend to everyone she encountered.
She will be missed.

I met my sister in law Penny when I was 19 years old and what a pain I was. It was amazing she let me in the house. We will miss her dearly.

I never knew Penny but I have seen the name many times on the forum so I know many there liked her.
Anyone that keeps animals is ok in my book.
For those of you that knew her... the forum gives you a place to go back and look at the postings of those that have gone on and remember them as they were. It keeps thier words undisturbed and unclouded by the passage of time and our own failing memories as we age. Something I had not though of before.
You will have to be a delphi Plus Member to go back far enough.

Today more than a bit of extra moisture accompanied me in the shower, for I learned this morning of our tender friend's passing. I accompanied her to her senior prom in 1963 and then lost touch for decades. Through my good fortune we caught up several years ago and email contact provided an ongoing glimpse of her surroundings, family most notably and her enduring love for natures other creatures. Quite a lady. She was honest beyond measure about her ailments yet never voiced a speck of down-heartedness about it. Yes, quite a lady. I am glad for my wife who I called at work about this and for our son, who's burrowed in with his girlfriend in his room as I write. They are my personal rock in an all too ridiculous world. It's a good thing to have learned a few things from Penny, probably more than I currently imagine; for certain, I'll reflect on her often. My best wishes to Mike and the extended family.

I will miss Penny forever. When I read the following, I thought of her immediately
As we walk our path of life,
We meet people everyday.
Most are simply met by chance.
But, some are sent our way.
These become special friends
Whose bond we can't explain;
The ones who understand us
And share our joy and pain.
Their love contains no boundaries.
So, even when we are apart.
Their presence enhances us
With a warmth felt in the heart.
This love becomes a passageway,
When even the miles disappear.
And so, these friends, that are sent our way,
Remain forever near.

I am deeply saddened to learn this news. Penny was an awesome lady with a huge heart and a million dollar laugh! I first met her in the early 90s when I was roommates with Nadja in D.C. She gladly mothered me like I was one of her own and could always make me giggle, even when we were studying for dreaded exams. We always bonded over the love of animals and this is such a fitting memorial site. The world feels a little less kind and bright without Penny today and I'm truly sorry for your loss.
Much love and sympathy. Kelley

Mike and family,
I am extremely saddened by your loss. Although I never met Penny, I felt I knew a lot about her from the many discusions I had with you, Mike. It was apparent the two of you had a special bond, and I know she was blessed to have such an attentive and caring partner. Mike I hope God gives you the strength when you are down, but also the blessing of the wonderful memories to fill the majority of your days.. You are in my prayers.
God Bless.... Bob Melo

Mike, Jonathan & Nadja -- I only just today found out about your loss, and I am so sorry to hear about Penny's passing. She was a good online friend, and I always knew I could lean on her shoulder when I needed to. I was able to get together with her a couple of years ago and had lunch at the Cracker Barrel in Frederick, and from the second we met, it was like we'd never been strangers. I will miss her.

I don't know what I can say about Penny that y'all don't already know. Her strength of will, passion for life, great intelligence, wonderful sense of humor, and unconditional love for her family and friends were always an inspiration to me.
Although I never met Penny in "real" life, I did consider her a dear friend, and I will truly miss her. Resquiescat in pace, Penny!

What can I say that will change the fact we have lost such a precious friend, mother, and supporter of so many?
Mike, we never met face to face but Penny and I always shared our deepest feelings, our hopes, our dreams and how we loved our pets and our family and our beautiful grandchildren, and how we love our Husbands.
Please know how sorry I am and how many of us hurt for our loss right along side you and Nadja and Jonathan and the rest of the family.
The pain will never go away, only get duller in time but her memories and her beautiful words will be with us all forever.

Dear Mike,
Linda and I both feel very sad and regret the passing of Penny. Linda especially regrets not having the opportunity to meet her, and for me, I regret not visiting with her for so many decades. I knew Penny as a loving spouse and a wonderful mom. My thoughts extend to both Nadja and Jonathon.

Many of us met Penny through the internet nine or ten years ago, but she touched every one of our lives in a positive way. It feels as if I have known her all my life. A true friend with a heart of gold, she will be missed, and never forgotten.
